The Melting Pot is a chain restaurant that specializes in fondue and has multiple locations across the country.It's a fun concept because it's an engaging dinner - where, yes, you do have to cook your own food - but its interactive and lots of fun for a group.Recently, I finally tried this restaurant with one of my best friends and her group of bridesmaids. We made a reservation at the Pittsburgh location and made our way back through the huge restaurant to our table.The general concept is this: pick a cheese course, pick a salad, pick an entree and pick a chocolate course.This all evens out to one standard price around $50. You can do a la carte, but it seemed easier for a group to just do the full experience.So, first step is to choose the cheese course. We had two burners so we got to choose two different cheeses: Buffalo Wisconsin Trio - butterkase, fontina, gorgonzola melted with white whine, sherry, shallots, Frank's RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce and Classic Alpine - gruyee, raclette, fontina, melted with white wine, garlic and nutmeg.

This restaurant is the best one I have been been to in Pittsburgh yet. The atmosphere is ambient and perfect for any occasion. The menu selection is accommodating to pretty much any dining preference and food sensitivity. But the experience is what totally put this place on top for me. The whole meal is very slow, but in a good way. It gives you a chance to have conversations and laughs throughout your meal and it also gives you a chance to savour and appreciate the food. The fact that the meal is stretched out over a long period of time is why the portions are perfect. We had eaten very little all day and we were more than satisfied after our meal. We ordered the 4-course dinner option, which I would definitely recommend. The whole experience is also really fun. The waiter/waitress will make the fondue pots at your table and then leave you with a selection of dippers (unlimited) to enjoy. The staff are so great. They were offering to take pictures of tables celebrating special occasions and really going out of their way to make sure everyone was having the best time. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable night.
